The Zanskar Valley – Beyond Amazing

The Zanskar Valley is located in the Ladakh region of the far Northern Indian Himalayas. It is a remote and rugged region that offers many unique travel experiences for adventurous travelers. The valley is surrounded by towering peaks that rise over 19,000 feet and is known for its stunning landscapes, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and unique cultural traditions. Here’s a closer look at what makes Zanskar Valley so special for travel.

Geography and Climate

The Zanskar Valley is situated at an elevation of over 11,000 feet, making it one of the highest inhabited regions in the world. The valley is surrounded by high mountains, with the Zanskar Range to the south and the Ladakh Range to the north. The region has a cold desert climate, with temperatures ranging from below freezing in the winter to around 68 degrees Fahrenheit   in the summer. The best time to visit Zanskar is from June to September when the weather is mild and the roads are open.

Natural Beauty

The Zanskar Valley is known for its stunning natural beauty. The valley is home to several high-altitude lakes, including the famous Pangong Tso, which is shared between India and China. The region is also home to the Zanskar River, which carves a deep gorge through the mountains and is popular for white-water rafting. The landscape of the valley is dotted with small villages and green fields, providing a stark contrast to the rocky, barren mountains.

We hope you can come and share this remarkable gem on our planet.

2020 Updates

Update for Zanskar Tibetan School for Girls
Welcome to the update for the Zanskar Tibetan Girls school. We are all so pleased and happy to report our progress thus far. Supporting women’s education is our passion.
The Great Push to build a larger school and help educate additional girls in Zanskar has exceeded our original expectations.
What this means is the original school served nine (9) girls and we had planned to build a larger schoolhouse and serve thirty-two girls (32). Additionally we wanted the school to be built of a quality that would enable residence for the entire year, including windows to brighten up the insides and increase usability. Remember that the original school was two rooms and no windows, and was inadequate for the winter in this remote region.

Our expectations have been exceeded and it is gratifying to know that these young women will take their education and teach their children. Others will now have the opportunity to go onward to higher learning. The value of education is priceless!

All of this was made possible by you, our generous donors. Your generosities have furthered young women’s education and helped preserve Tibetan Culture and Language.

As we close out our year we at Deep Roots Himalayan Foundation ask again for your support.

Please give generously, Your Support is appreciated beyond measure.

Support One Teacher for a Year $2,500.00 (4)
Support one Child for a Year $400.00 (50)

Update for Zanskar Tibetan School for Girls
Welcome to the update for October 2019 for the Zanskar Tibetan Girls school. We are all so pleased and happy to report our progress thus far. Supporting women’s education is our passion.

Additionally we wanted the school to be built of a quality that would enable residence for the entire year, including windows to brighten up the insides and increase usability. Remember that the original school was two rooms and no windows, and was inadequate for the winter in this remote region.

Our initial support for the school was incredible. In two years we were able to build a new school that is now occupied year round. The enrollment is now fifty (50) girls and additional teachers have been hired as well. The local people have been helpful in the construction of the school and we are extremely grateful.

Our expectations have been exceeded and it is gratifying to know that these young women will take their education and teach their children. Others will now have the opportunity to go onward to higher learning. The value of education is priceless!
